Yellow Belt – Stances

Closed Leg Stance – Heisoku Dachi – 閉足立

Joining Stance – Musubi Dachi – 結び立

Seen in Katas, but not in actual combat, this is your basic “at attention” stance. To do it, simply stand with your feet touching, toes pointing forward. Make sure that your shoulder, hips, knees and ankles are all in line with each other.

This is very similar to Hesioku Dachi, but you should stand with your heels together, toes pointing out at about 45 degrees. This stance is used to perform the formal respectful bow, rei (礼).
